Riding for a Cause
Charity cycling events are a wonderful way to combine your love of cycling with giving back to the community. Atlantic City and the Jersey Shore host several charity rides throughout the year, ranging from short family-friendly events to long-distance challenges. Here's our guide to charity cycling events in the Atlantic City area.
Why Ride for Charity?
Make a difference: Every charity ride raises money for an important cause — from medical research to community programs to environmental protection.
Challenge yourself: Charity rides often offer distances you might not attempt on your own, giving you a goal to train for.
Community: You'll ride alongside hundreds of like-minded people, all united by a common purpose. It's a powerful, uplifting experience.
Supported riding: Charity rides typically include rest stops, food, mechanical support, and SAG (support and gear) vehicles, making long rides more accessible.
Popular Atlantic City Charity Rides
American Diabetes Association Tour de Cure: This annual event features routes of varying distances starting in Atlantic City, from family-friendly 10-mile rides to challenging 60+ mile routes. The ride raises funds for diabetes research and advocacy.
MS City to Shore Ride: One of the most popular charity rides in New Jersey, this event runs from Philadelphia to Ocean City and passes through the Jersey Shore area. It's a 75-mile point-to-point ride with a 25-mile option, raising funds for multiple sclerosis research.
Atlantic City Bike MS: A shorter charity ride that starts and ends on the Atlantic City Boardwalk, featuring a 25-mile route through the downbeach communities.
Local Foundation Rides: Throughout the year, various local organizations host charity rides on the boardwalk and coastal roads. Check our events page for upcoming rides.
How to Prepare for a Charity Ride
Train for the distance: Make sure you can comfortably ride the distance you've chosen. Build up your mileage gradually over several weeks.
Fundraise: Most charity rides have a minimum fundraising goal. Start early and use social media and personal networks to reach your goal.
Check your bike: Have your bike professionally tuned up before the event. A mechanical failure on a charity ride can ruin the experience.
Arrive early: Charity rides can be crowded. Arrive early to register, find parking, and get ready without rushing.
Pace yourself: Charity rides are not races. Ride at a comfortable pace and enjoy the experience.
